Getting started

I have always admired people that blog.  I have finally decided to start my own. So here it is!
So many people have told me that some day I should write a book about my life, to me it would be rather boring, but then I remember that God has me here for a purpose and maybe something in my life will inspire or help someone in some way.
There have been many storms in my life and as I look out my window tonight there is a new storm raging... this time in the sky. I used to have a terible fear of storms, but after living through some bad storms when we still lived in a trailer house, I learned that it is gonna take more than a big wind to take me out of this world. The bottom line is when it is my time to go God will take me out, it doesnt matter if I live in a trailer house in Michigan or a brick house in Tennessee. As I am typing there are storm warnings sounding on the TV in the livingroom, but when I look out the window it is perfectly calm out. Maybe it is that calm that should be what scares me! This day has been filled with tornadoes, horrible and deadly tornadoes all to the west of us. There is a good likelihood that we will have a tornado here tonight too. I am not afraid, but I do have respect for the force of these storms. I will feel better when my hubby and the kids are all home. I dont know why that as a mom we always want the family to be together whenever there is a "storm". No matter what kind of trouble there is I always feel better when all of my chickies are in their nests.
For tonight, I will be happy when these storms pass by and the new calm behind them settles in. In the meantime, I better get to baking the cookies that I mixed up this afternoon. I will call them Nene's "good" cookies. They are a fantastic recipe that I found in a newspaper years ago.

Nene's Good Cookies
1 c. shortening (butter flavored) I use half butter
3/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. peanut butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 c. flour ( I use half whole wheat)
1 c. oats
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 c. chocolate chips (I use half M&Ms)
1 c. shredded coconut (optional)

I never wrote the directions down for these, but I assume that it is standard, so I cream the shortening and sugars together, add the eggs, peanut butter, and vanilla and mix well. Add the flour, oats, baking powder, salt and soda and mix. Then stir in the coconut and chocolate chips. Bake them on a ungreased cookie sheet for about 12 mins in a 350 degree oven.

Enjoy~
